| My interest in photography was established in 2005 when I was contracted for a year touring nationally to regional and capital cities, promoting the track and field events of the upcoming 2006 Commonwealth Games to primary school students all around Australia. With a lot of time and travel between events, the opportunities for sport, landscape and general documentary photography whetted my appetite for studies in the field of photography. The chance to continue this new-found passion was established with the commencement in 2007 of a Bachelor of Visual Media at Griffith University, Gold Coast Campus which I completed in November 2009, graduating with the highest GPA in the ePhotojournalism major. In 2010 I commenced a part-time honours degree, and enjoyed being a tutor to a class of 23 News Photography students. In June 2011 I completed a photojournalism cadetship with The Northern Star (APN) newspaper as part of a four member photographic team, travelling and covering local and national front page news articles, features, sport and advertisements in the New South Wales Northern River’s region. This position provided me with professional and personal growth in my photographic practices, management and abilities, allowing me to seek opportunities further afield. Sports action photography is my real photographic passion. Capturing the atmosphere, the excitement, the anguish and the tension of the play, all summed up in one photograph, is a big challenge, but one I enjoy striving for. |
